A man and woman who allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a woman they held captive for hours on New Year’s Eve in northwest NSW are set to face court.

The 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital on January 1 after reporting to police she had been detained and assaulted by the pair for hours in Cumborah the previous evening.

A 50-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman who are both from Queensland were arrested on Sunday afternoon after police stopped a truck travelling through Bourke in northwest NSW.

A police search of the vehicle allegedly found methylamphetamine, cannabis, and electronic devices connected with the investigation.

A second person believes they were also drugged in the Cumborah region on the same night.

The man and woman were each charged with six counts of aggravated sexual assault in company with another person, while the man also faces two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.

The pair have been refused bail and are due to appear before Walgett Local Court on Monday.
