Mesmerising maze of mirrors winding its way back home

A mirror-maze art installation will return to the city of its creation after touring art shows and galleries around the nation.
Kaleidoscope – an immersive audiovisual feast of mirrors, light and sound from installation artist Keith Courtney in collaboration with Ash Keating and Samantha Slicer – will display in Geelong, west of Melbourne from mid-May.
The work featured at Melbourne’s Rising Festival last year, the Brisbane Festival, this year’s Adelaide Fringe Festival and will conclude a recent showing in Bendigo this weekend.
The upcoming exhibition will mark something of a return home for the work, which was constructed by Mr Courtney’s go-to fabricator and glazier, both South Geelong businesses.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said Kaleidoscope would be a mesmerising addition to Greater Geelong’s arts and culture scene.
“Council is thrilled to welcome Keith Courtney and Kaleidoscope back to our region – where it all started for the installation with the help of talented Geelong businesses,” Mr Sullivan said in a statement.
The work features a haunting soundscape composed by Tamil Rogeon and featuring the National Boys Choir.
“Kaleidoscope will contain internal mirrors, luminous glass, and translucent beads of colour,” Mr Courtney said.
“As the light shifts and the delicate tubular structure rotates, the space is transformed into an intergalactic playground.”
The artist said the visitor becomes completely submerged in sound and light where their experience is entirely personal.
Kaleidoscope will be on display in Geelong’s Johnstone Park Forecourt from May 13 to June 18.
