Waste collection workers are striking in the City of Sydney and some areas of Victoria.

Rubbish could pile up on streets in Sydney and parts of Victoria as waste disposal workers strike to protest working conditions and wages.

The Transport Workers Union plan to walk off the job for 24 hours from Wednesday in the City of Sydney and Victorian local government areas of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast, Golden Plains, Moonee Valley and Hobsons Bay.

The strikes follow similar action in NSW, Queensland, WA and ACT after waste management company Cleanaway stripped back overtime entitlements and extended rosters, according to Transport Workers Union Victoria and Tasmania secretary Mike McNess.
