‘Really bad’: woman driving with five kids unrestrained

A woman has been caught speeding with five unrestrained children in her vehicle including a baby being held by a five-year-old, police say.
The 36-year-old has been charged and fined almost $7000 after also being accused of driving without a licence with the young kids – aged four months to nine years – on board.
The woman was intercepted after travelling at 77km/hr in a 60km zone about 4pm at Redbank, southwest of Brisbane on October 9.
A four-month-old baby was being held by the five-year-old in the back seat, police said.
Body cam footage was on Monday released showing an officer discovering unrestrained children in the rear of a Hyundai iMax.
“You’re going to receive a fine for each child that is unrestrained because that’s really bad,” the officer said.
“You’ve got a four-month-old, you said, being held … that’s not good okay.”
The female driver at one stage can be seen putting her head in her hands as the officer details the alleged offences.
“You are going to get an infringement for each and every one (of the children) because you are endangering each of those kids – it’s just not on.”
The woman was fined $6,993 and incurred 23 demerit points.
She was also charged with driving without a licence and issued with a notice to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 29.
“There is absolutely no excuse for putting children at risk like this,” Senior Sergeant Jarrad Tyne said in a statement.
“An unrestrained child is incredibly vulnerable in a crash. Even at relatively low speeds, the consequences can be catastrophic.
“Speeding only compounds the danger. Drivers have a responsibility to protect every person in their vehicle, particularly young children.”
