P-plater caught driving while buttering a bagel

A peckish P-plater has made a meal of his commute after being caught buttering a bagel while driving, police say.
The hungry man allegedly tucked into the baked treat as he travelled along a busy street about 3.50pm in Toowomba west of Brisbane on Monday.
The famished 29-year-old was pulled over after being caught driving with his knees as he prepared his tasty snack, police said.
Body cam footage was released on Wednesday capturing the moment police approached the esurient motorist.
“Can you explain to me why … you thought steering a motor vehicle on your Ps with your knees while you buttered a bagel would be a great idea?” the officer said.
The man replied: “I know that was stupid but I was hungry, have been working since this morning.”
The officer later said: “I can’t understand how you thought that would be a great idea in all that traffic.”
The P-plater was also found to be driving an unregistered vehicle.
“There is some more bad news for you sir,” the officer tells the motorist in the footage.
“The registration on your vehicle has expired … three days ago.”
It turned out to be a very expensive bagel.
The P-plater was fined $1104 after receiving infringement notices for driving without due care and attention and driving an unregistered vehicle.
He also lost three demerit points.
”Taking your hands and focus away from the task of driving, even for something as seemingly harmless like preparing food, can have serious consequences,” Acting Superintendent Kelly Hanlen warned.
”I want to remind motorists there is no meal, message or other distraction worth risking your safety or the safety of other road users.
”If you’re driving, keep your attention on the road and your hands where they belong – on the wheel.”
