Police have locked down several streets after an officer was shot while attending a property.

Police have declared an emergency as they engage with a man at the home at Yengarie on Queensland’s Fraser Coast.

Officers had gone to the address on Friday evening for a welfare check and tried to engage the man when one of them was shot in the leg, police said. 

The officer was taken to hospital in a stable condition, and police remain at the semi-rural property.

An exclusion zone is in place around surrounding streets and people are urged to avoid the area.
