A man who allegedly stabbed his partner and their baby daughter to death has been charged with two counts of murder.

The 38-year-old allegedly killed the 37-year-old woman and 11-month-old girl at their home in Logan on Thursday, Queensland Police say.

The violent tragedy was discovered after reports of a man being struck by a car not far from the grisly crime scene, 30km south of Brisbane.

Police were trying to reach the man’s next of kin when officers discovered the bodies of the woman and their daughter in the family’s home.

Both died from critical injuries from an edged weapon, police said at the time.

Witnesses raised the alarm after seeing a man covered in blood running along a footpath before he was hit by a black utility about 300m from the family home.

Evidence markers were placed along the footpath, marking a trail of blood leading from the house in the hours after the killings.

The man, who suffered serious injuries, remains in hospital and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court by video link on Wednesday.
