Two weeks after turning to drink when his Bathurst 1000 campaign ended in disaster, Chaz Mostert has secured a famous Gold Coast double.

The Ford flyer backed up a stunning victory on Saturday to again pip Supercars championship leader Broc Feeney in a heavyweight battle around the streets of Surfers Paradise.

In just 24 hours, Mostert took his win tally for the season from one to three and shot himself into title contention in the new finals format.

Starting from third on the grid, the 33-year-old edged past pole-sitter Feeney when he had the better of their near simultaneous pit stops on lap 57.

Mostert also had to deal with the safety car coming out with eight laps remaining when veteran James Courtney crashed into a tyre wall.

“Broc was super fast, and no doubt he probably deserved the victory,” Mostert said.

“He even showed there at the end how fast he was.

“Just our car just wasn’t quite as good on the soft (tyre). You just need some luck sometimes.

“I joked to my wife coming into this weekend because she said we had an appointment on Monday that we had to make.

“Then in the (Supercars) schedule they said the (Sunday) winner has to go to this thing at 10.30 (Monday morning).

“I said, ‘I’m just going to win both of them, darling’.

“So next time, I’m just going to bluff it most weekends.”

Andre Heimgartner secured a hard-fought podium, withstanding a massive last-lap challenge from reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Matt Payne.

It was sweet redemption for Mostert, whose Bathurst tilt ended early a fortnight ago, famously accepting an alcoholic drink from a spectator at Mount Panorama as he left his vehicle.

After Feeney secured his 15th pole of 2025, the Red Bull Ampol ace had to settle for second on back-to-back days.

The 23-year-old Gold Coast local is just one pole position away from matching Scott McLaughlin’s 2017 record of 16 in a Supercars season.

Brodie Kostecki, the 2023 Supercars champion, Saturday pole-sitter Ryan Wood, and Anton De Pasquale have been eliminated from the finals race.

Seven drivers – Mostert, Feeney, Payne, Will Brown, Cam Waters, Kai Allen and Thomas Randle – remain in contention ahead of the penultimate round of the season, the Sandown 500 from November 14.
