Hippi Hippi hooray as Aussie women outclass Orchids

The Australian Women’s Prime Minister’s XIII team has outclassed a spirited Papua New Guinea Orchids 50-0 at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Veteran trio Quincy Dodd, Kasey Reh and Kirra Dibb steered the ship for Australian coach Jess Skinner’s side on Sunday, while wingers Phoenix-Raine Hippi and Caitlin Turnbull grabbed trebles.
Exciting 19-year-old Gold Coast Titans prodigy Hippi was outstanding, threatening the Orchids defence every time she touched the ball, scoring a hat-trick and setting up another two.
On a hot and humid day in the PNG capital, teams were afforded an extra drinks break, midway through each half and, despite the score, the Orchids were a vastly improved outfit than the one thumped by the same score in 2024.
Hippi scored the opener in the eighth minute off a peach of a cut-out pass by Reh, and the winger was over again four minutes later, somehow remaining in touch as she planted the ball down centimetres from the corner.
First-half tries followed to Turnbull and Mackenzie Weale, and at the break, Australia led 20-0.
An error from Orchid’s winger Skaylyn Sil off the second-half kickoff presented Australia with an early opportunity and Turnbull had her double inside 90 seconds.
Australia scored another five tries via Dodd, Turnbull, Abbi Church, Hippi and Andie Robinson to seal the comfortable win.Â
For the Orchids, skipper and Parramatta Eels front-rower Elsie Albert led the way, her side valiant in defence and causing trouble at times through the middle in attack.Â
They had five NRLW players in their side, but a lack of fitness in the heat led to a host of errors.Â
Looking ahead, Dodd, Weale and Church all came through the match without incident and will take their place in the Jillaroos squad for the upcoming Pacific Championships.
