Khawaja passes last concussion test, fine for Gabba

Usman Khawaja has been cleared to play in the second Test against the West Indies at the Gabba after passing a final concussion check.

Struck late in Australia’s win in Adelaide on Friday, Khawaja has undergone daily checks after being initially cleared of both a concussion and broken jaw.

The 37-year-old has passed each test without concern, with Cricket Australia now confident the opener has no symptoms of delayed concussion.

It means Khawaja will train at the Gabba during Australia’s main session on Tuesday, before the start of the final Test of the summer on Thursday.

Khawaja’s fitness will allow Australia to keep an unchanged side for the Test, with he and Steve Smith to keep their combination at the top of the order.

Matt Renshaw misses out on returning to the Test team, and will again act as a reserve batsman.
