If you’re a bit handy and like living in the bush, this could be the job for you.
The idyllic Lake Broadwater, on Queensland’s Western Downs, is looking for resident caretakers to spend the next two years living and working at the popular recreation site 30 kilometres southwest of Dalby.
It’s long been a popular place to visit for a swim, a picnic or camping, and is home to impressive birdlife and flora. It’s recently had an upgrade with many new facilities installed.
Western Downs Regional Council says the caretaker role is open to duos or families. Councillor Kylie Bourne says finding the right people is vital.
“The Western Downs is home to many great sights and attractions. Finding someone who would be a welcoming face to the lake and a strong advocate for regional tourism is very important.
“We have a motto in the Western Downs: ‘it’s the people that make it’.
“The person taking on this rare and exciting role will be the face for our local communities to drive events and ensure this little slice of heaven will continue to be a popular part of our active, vibrant region for years to come.”
The job comes with on-site five-bedroom accommodation overlooking the lake.
Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the role suits who is passionate about the region and its natural wonders.
“Lake Broadwater has always been a favourite recreational spot for locals and visitors, but with the recently completed upgrades the Lake is now a jewel in our region’s crown.
“The fantastic communal firepits, picnic shelters, powered camp sites and amenities blocks make Lake Broadwater a place to come together and celebrate the majesty of the great outdoors.
“The Western Downs is a great place to live, work and play and we’re positive that the right candidates will enjoy the beautiful surroundings, our unique and exciting events, and great lifestyle.”
