South Burnett anti-drug operation comes to an end

Police have closed a ten-month operation targeting the supply of methylamphetamines in Cherbourg and Murgon, in Queensland’s South Burnett region.
Operation Rumpel was launched in January by Murgon detectives, using information from the public to launch operations across the region.
Thirty people have been arrested on 241 drug offences, the most recent on Tuesday of a 51-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man in Murgon.
Police allege the two supplied and trafficked methylamphetamines at Murgon between January and October this year.
They have been charged with 198 offences, including 192 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, trafficking dangerous drugs, and other drug-related offences.
They were due to appear at the Murgon Magistrates Court.
Detective Sergeant Martin Hunter said there had been strong community support throughout the long investigation.
“This operation demonstrated the collaboration of the community and police to deter, detect and disrupt the supply chain for methamphetamine in the area.
“Regional detectives worked with specialist police units acting on good information supplied by the community which culminated in these arrests.
“Operation Rumpel has put a significant dent in the drug trade in the area which has led to a safer community for both Murgon and Cherbourg.”
