Police have charged a Townsville woman alleged to have been making counterfeit money.

The Townsville Major and Organised Crime Squad raided an address in Denham Street, where they found about $6,200 in counterfeit money in $100, $50, and $20 Australian banknotes.

It’s alleged they also found printers, instruments, and materials used in connection with making counterfeit money.

The 41-year-old woman was being investigated following a claim she had used counterfeit money to buy clothing at a shop in Currajong last week.

She’s been charged with multiple counterfeiting offences and was remanded in custody.

Police have warned local businesses accepting cash to check banknotes carefully and contact police if they think they’ve received a counterfeit note.
