Police dog finds weapons cache after alleged FNQ kidnap and torture

A cache of firearms and ammunition has been found in a hidden bunker buried under a haystack on a property in far north Queensland.
Police went to the property at Arriga, west of Cairns, to execute a search warrant after a man claimed he had been kidnapped and tortured there on Sunday.
Police Dog Quincy led officers to the bunker, where it’s alleged 27 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition were found.
It’s alleged police also found jewellery, watches, cannabis, methylamphetamine, and property belonging to the alleged victim of the kidnap.
Police said a 28-year-old local man went to a property on Chettle Road, Arriga, to meet a man known to him.
When he arrived, he was approached by two men allegedly armed with rifles who forced him into a car, tied him up and assaulted him.
It’s alleged they took the man’s wallet and damaged his car before freeing him and demanding he leave.
The man drove to Atherton hospital where he was treated and police were notified.
Police arrested a 27-year-old Arriga man and a 37-year-old man, charging them with multiple offences.
Both men have been remanded in custody to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on November 11.
