Queensland police open fire on armed man

A man armed with a knife has been shot by police during a routine welfare check on the northern Gold Coast.
Officers were called to the home in Bellagio Crescent at Coomera around 3.20pm on Sunday.
A 29-year-old man armed with a knife threatened police, who opened fire, a spokeswoman for the force said.
It is understood the man has been shot a number of times.
He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
Police remain at the scene and the incident is under investigation.
