“We are expecting a massive influx of visitors, both former Mount Isa residents, and visitors that are yet to experience our terrific city.

“There will be a mix of free and ticketed events, and it is the desire of the committee to make the events accessible to locals, both new and old, as well as driving economic activity.”

The official program begins with Mount Isa Day on February 23, and includes an agricultural show, street festival, sport championships, a rodeo,  a reunion dinner and ball, and a reunion of the Mount Isa State High School junior year of 1970.

Mount Isa is the largest town in western Queensland, located on the banks of the Leichhardt River, 1820 kilometres north-west of Brisbane and 160 kilometres from the Northern Territory border.

The town was established in 1923, when rich lead deposits were found in the area, with silver, copper, and zinc later found. Individual mining camps eventually grew into Mount Isa Mines, one of Australia’s most successful mining operations.
