Police have charged three men who allegedly filmed themselves riding motorcycles at high speeds through the Sunshine Coast hinterland last month.
It’s alleged a 45-year-old man set up a camera on his Yamaha motorbike and filmed himself in company with two other riders at Peachester.
The video clearly shows the bike speedo reaching speeds above 140 kilometres per hour. The bike reached 192 km/h on the Kilcoy Beerwah Road.
Police said the video also shows the man riding through Bellthorpe allegedly crossing the double lines of a narrow road more than 22 times.
The video was published on social media and was later referred to the Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol. Police executed a warrant at a Parreara address on July 28 and seized a GoPro.
Two men will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 22 on charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle. A third man has been issued with infringement notices.
Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol said the behaviour was disappointing.
“The Sunshine Coast hinterland is a popular place for riders, but what many fail to understand is that the winding roads can be extremely dangerous, especially travelling at high speed.
“Riding at excessive speed and crossing double lines when you can’t clearly see oncoming traffic is reckless and puts other road users’ lives at risk as well.
