Boy, 8, found dead in central Queensland

An eight-year-old boy has been found dead in a central Queensland home.

Police officers found the child during an early morning welfare check at the Rockhampton home.

Officers went to the address at Waterloo St in Berserker about 2.20am Saturday, where they found the boy unresponsive.

The death is being treated as suspicious, Queensland Police said in a statement.

The home was declared a crime scene and the Rockhampton Child Protection and Investigation Unit are investigating the sudden death.

A 36-year-old woman, known to the boy, is assisting detectives.
