“Don’t drive into floodwaters” – Queensland Police renew appeal after rescue and heavy rain

Queensland Police are again telling road users not to drive into floodwaters, after a man was rescued from his partially submerged car in the Mackay region.
Police said the man attempted to drive through floodwaters on Marian-Eton Road at North Eton, about 30 kilometres west of Mackay.
Officers from the Pioneer Valley found him still in his vehicle. The engine had stopped, and the vehicle was partially submerged.
The man and the vehicle were rescued by police.
Police have urged caution on the roads with more rain expected around north Queensland this week, with potential for flooding in low-lying areas.
The weather has caused at least seven road closures or traffic restrictions in the Mackay Whitsunday region, with flooding and road damage reported.
Heavy rain has been falling along the Queensland east coast and adjacent inland, due to interaction between a low to mid-level trough near the coast and an upper-level trough further west.
The heaviest rainfall is expected on the central and northern coasts, with lighter rain and storms further inland.
