First frost for southern Queensland. Single digit temps as winter hits

Frost has been reported in southern Queensland this morning, after a blast of cold polar air sent temperatures down on the second day of winter.

Forecasters had warned changing conditions would put an end to relatively mild autumn temperatures, and frost was possible in the south-east region.

Temperatures fell to single digits, and there were reports of sub-zero readings in some locations.

At Warwick, in the Southern Downs region, the temperature dropped to zero with local frost.

Frost forms from soft ice crystals or frozen dew drops on objects near the ground. It occurs when the surface temperature falls below freezing point, usually under a clear sky, with little or no wind.
