Colin the north Queensland croc seeks new home

Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science will relocate a freshwater crocodile that turned up last week at the showgrounds in the north Queensland town of Bowen.
Locals believe it’s a freshwater crocodile they call Colin, who’s well known in the area. They say the croc may have been displaced by recent heavy rain from its usual habitat in wetlands at nearby Muller’s Lagoon.
Wildlife officers were called to the Bowen showgrounds to remove the crocodile after members of the public are said to have restrained it using a recommended method.
Freshwater crocodiles are smaller and much less dangerous than saltwater crocodiles. They rarely attack humans but could do significant damage.
On social media, commenters claim the crocodile is known locally as Colin, who is said to have been dumped in Muller’s Lagoon three years ago. One commenter said Colin may have been lonely and wandered in search of a mate.
The crocodile is at a local facility. The Department said it’s working to find it a new home, but a release into the wild is unlikely.
