Snakes and ladders: What a Queensland family found up in the roof

by Queenslander Staff
A couple in Queensland had the shock of their life when they discovered over 50 snake skins in their attic space.
Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers owner Stuart McKenzie arrived at the home to check for snakes as the owners were clearing out insulation and had noticed a few snake skins.
But he got more than he bargained for.
‘There’s a lot of snake activity up here,’ Mr McKenzie can be heard commenting as he enters the attic and spots a large carpet python skin in the corner.
The local snake catcher uploaded a video to his Facebook page following him as he searched for snakes in the attic of the Hunchy home.
Over 50 skins were retrieved from the attic along with a live brown tree snake which he swiftly bagged and relocated outside.
While many of the skins were old, some were ‘fresh’ meaning they were recently living upstairs from the couple.

After clearing out the attic, Mr McKenzie examines the skins and tells the camera, ‘This is a pretty big haul of skins that we got out of the roof’.
It is quite common for snakes to live in attic spaces in Australia as there is plenty of food like rodents for them to feast on. Usually they are non-venomous species like carpet pythons and tree snakes.
