Catalans hit by injury blow to Aussie star

Catalans Dragons will be without their influential Australian halfback Josh Drinkwater for around two months in the Super League after scans revealed he partially ruptured a tendon in his foot during the 14-8 defeat at Hull.

The 29-year-old, who played for St George Illawarra and Wests Tigers in the NRL, has been a standout, missing only one game in 2021 and playing a key role in the Dragons reaching a maiden Super League grand final.

Drinkwater, who’s the older brother of Cowboys NRL player Scott Drinkwater, had started the first 12 matches of the current season.

“Josh Drinkwater underwent scans to determine the extent of his injury after leaving the field during the Super League game at Hull FC on Sunday night,” a statement from the Perpignan-based club said.

“Scans have shown he partially ruptured a tendon in his foot. He will be unavailable for an estimated eight weeks.”
