Dog act! Fleeing criminal suspect puts police dog Beau in a headlock

It’s going to be quite a ‘tail’ police prosecutors tell Magistrates in Caboolture.

A police dog is recovering from his injuries after a man trying to evade arrest by police officers in Morayfield allegedly punched and put the canine in a headlock.

Just before 1pm on Tuesday, police responded to a Morayfield address following reports a 31 year-old man was allegedly breaching a domestic violence order.

The man fled the address and attempted to enter an alleged stolen vehicle when he was confronted by a Police Dog Squad handler and Police Dog Beau.

“The man, who was allegedly aggressive and non-compliant with police, ran from the scene with PD Beau giving chase,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“It will be alleged the man fought and assaulted the PD Beau, including by putting him in a headlock, punching and striking him.

“PD Beau’s handler subsequently deployed a Taser and the man was handcuffed and taken into custody.”

Beau sustained an eye laceration as a result.

The man, who police said was “bitten during his interactions with PD Beau”, was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remained on Wednesday.

The Morayfield man was charged with a total of 24 offences, including injuring a police dog, contravening a domestic violence order and serious assault of a police officer.

He was also charged with several other offences, including enter premises and commit indictable offence, burglary and robbery.

The man remains in police custody and is expected to appear before Caboolture Magistrates Court at a later date.
